Inspired by the Eastern philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, the work contemplates the essential impermanence and transient nature of life within a state of meditative stillness. The visual language favors absolute minimalism and symmetry, leveraging expansive depth of field and tranquil negative space to evoke loneliness, a sense of speck-like insignificance, and deep contemplation within boundless space. The camera chooses stillness over motion, drawing the viewer's gaze toward the spontaneous shifts of the dancer's energy and the organic rhythms of the wind and swaying elements. As twilight falls, the footage decelerates into final stillness, reflecting the fundamentally transient nature of existence.
This work originates from the dancers‘ exploration of the organic and random nature of improvisational dance, attempting to capture the fleeting beauty of transience. The ”Sabi“ in Wabi-Sabi symbolizes insight into essence and a contemplative view of the ever-changing nature. Through the interplay of lines and spatial movements, using time as a canvas, it seeks the impermanence and emptiness of all things between longing and surrender.
